About The Founder, Designer, Educator and Teacher
Dr. Medsker |
Dr. Medsker has been a professional educator
for over 44 years. In 1963 he left high school at the end of
his junior year to attend flight school at Spartan School of
Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma for one year. He was licensed
by the federal government in 1964 as a certified flight instructor,
instrument flight instructor in both single and multi engine
aircraft. He graduated for Broomfield High School in Broomfield,
Colorado in 1965 while working as a flight instructor at Judson
Flight School in Longmont, Colorado. From 1965 through 1973
he flew a wide variety of aviation jobs including an instructor
pilot for the Air Force T-41 program in Lubbock, TX. He also
flew in agricultural work, mountain flying in the Rocky Mountains
including air search and rescue, as well as an instructional
pilot at Jefferson County Airport in Broomfield, Colorado. In
1966 he completed the Air Force’s aircraft power plant
mechanic school program in Wichita Falls, TX. In 1967 he went
to Travis Air Force Base in Savannah, GA where he studied and
completed a one year flight engineer program presented by the
Air Force. From 1967 through 1973 he crewed the C-124’s
under the command of MAC (Military Air Command). He has flown
to many parts of the world including Europe, Puerto Rico, Canal
Zone in Central America, Hawaii, Philippines, and Vietnam.
During this time he started college at Armstrong State College
in Savannah where he majored in chemistry. He also competed
on trampoline in college in 1968 & 69. He toured the Southern
states with the Pan-American Olympic coach Fred Martinez and
many Olympic team members. He also taught a trampoline course
at Armstrong State College from 1967 through 1970 where he was
listed as an instructor. In 1969 he became a certified scuba
diver with United States Divers Association. In 1970 he started
studying martial arts and in 1973 he became a black belt in
an Okinawa style called Shorinji Kempo and to date teaches accelerated
natural healing methods in the World Moosul Kwan Martial Arts
Federation. In 1976 he received his BS degree and Doctorate
of Chiropractic and joined the undergraduate faculty of Palmer
College.
He continued his education where he studied and became certified
in clinical hypnosis. In 1978 he was appointed to the post graduate
faculty at Palmer College of Chiropractic and joined the national
lecture circuit. In 1977 he wrote his first book tilted “Chiropractic
and Pediatrics” and has also published many articles on
natural trauma care, athletic injuries, and procedures, techniques,
and methodology. These procedures include accelerated healing
methods where the injured tissue repairs its self without the
formation of scar tissue. Non-scar healing is a break through
when every where else can only offer the standard injury deformation
and scaring. In 1980 he was selected by Outstanding Young Men
of America in recognition for his outstanding professional achievements,
superior leadership and exceptional services to community. He
joined the faculty of Life College of Chiropractic in 1981.
During his tenure as a professional educator, he achieved the
honorable title of assistant professor.
His motocross career started in late 1985, working with Billy
Liles of Team Kawasaki. By early 1986, he was working exclusively
with Billy and David Bailey of Team Honda. He was, according
to David, David's private trainer, coach, psychologist, teacher,
doctor and good friend. It was during that time period he worked
with Gary Bailey in Gary’s motocross school. Thanks goes
to Gary Bailey who was the influencing force behind the development
of this college racing program. Late in 1986 Gary Bailey asked
Dr. Medsker to work with Jeff Stanton who a 125 pro rider to
team Yamaha. During the Supercross race at Miami Jeff hurt his
left shoulder. Jeff returned to Dr. Medsker’s home and
within a few weeks they had agreed to work together exclusively
with their only goal being the acquisition of Jeff’s championships.
In a private meeting in early in 1987 with David Bailey, Dr.
Medsker was asked to provide similar services for and work with
David’s good friend Rick Johnson. At that time he was
already working with, teaching, and developing another up-and-coming
young rider named Jeff Stanton. Dr. Medsker worked with Ricky
Johnson for three years until Rick’s left wrist injury
that ended his racing career. Over that time period Dr. Medsker
continued working with Jeff Stanton in AMA Supercross and outdoor
national events. Jeff’s relationship continued on into
the early nineties where their relationship had earned Jeff
several AMA championship titles.
In August of 1997 he started working with another young and
promising up and coming rider Jimmy Povolny. Jimmy came to Dr.
Medsker’s office with a frozen shoulder injury. As Dr.
Medsker learned later Jimmy already had two different surgical
teams already lineup to perform shoulder surgery. But, if he
had the surgeries he would be out of competition for about eight
to ten months. Within just a few days after Dr. Medsker had
started working on Jimmy’s shoulder it had been corrected
back to a level where at-home rehab applications would work
fine. During that initial stay Jimmy told Dr. Medsker that he
regularly fell once to twice each outdoor national level moto.
In subsequence conversations they agreed that if Jimmy wanted
to win he would have to stay upright on the bike. Therefore
he was required to learn why he was falling and what he must
do to over come this problem. Dr. Medsker taught his safety
program to Jimmy which ended his falling days. And with the
development of a new and special hypnosis and NLP safety program,
including spontaneous, Jimmy set an all new record of no falls,
no accidents, and no injuries for over three years. Today Jimmy
and Dr. Medsker are still the best of friends and still work
closely together.
In 1999 Dr. Medsker was asked by his good friend Larry Brooks,
at that time was team manager for Chaparral Racing, to coach
Jeremy McGrath. They agreed that he would coach Jeremy, but
the only way it would possible work was if Dr. Medsker would
coach Larry to coach Jeremy. The reason being that there was
no established or existing trust relationship between Jeremy
and Dr. Medsker before Jeremy became a seated champion. This
unique form of coaching between the three of them worked very
well but by the end of the third season (2001) the situation
had changed and the three way coaching system came to an end.
According to many riders, including the ones mentioned above,
when titles were up for grabs, a championship had to be won,
or championships being challenged or threatened, "Dr. Medsker
made the difference in winning. His mental training program
is so unique and unmatched that other race teams have yet challenged
them for any championship.
At present he and his wife have a full time Holistic and natural
private practice in Quinby, South Carolina. Dr. Medsker still
specializes in motocross problems and injuries and now works
with the teams as a consultant, as well. He is a system analyst
who can take a close look at the way the team does things and
then makes his suggestions and recommendations on how they can
do better. Riders from all over the United States and Europe
come to them for their around-the-clock method of natural healing.
Their clinic also educates and teaches the rider and team how
to perform at-home self-administered rehab therapies shortening
the recovery times. The at-home rehab techniques continue on
into at-home prevention techniques. Educating and teaching the
rider and team to successfully perform at-home rehab and prehab
methods greatly shortens the rider’s injury recovery time
and, at the same time, prevents future problems from happening.
This allows the rider or team members to watch over and daily
care for the problem. The at-home self-administered educational
course taught has provided an additional bonus to the teams.
It not only provides a more frequent form of self applied treatments
but greatly reduced the overall cost factors and doctor-hospital
frustrations generally encountered.
He became a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) instructor, certified
for both beginning and advanced street riding skills in 1997.
The MSF programs are taught at technical colleges throughout
the world. He strongly recommends that all of his serious riders
cross train in many form of motorcycle riding. However, if the
rider chooses to ride street bikes Dr. Medsker strongly recommends
the rider to take the 2-day safe course offered by MSF.
Safety Awareness & Countermeasure Program
In 1995 he designed and created one of the most aggressive and
highly effective off-road motocross and Supercross safety awareness
and accident prevention coursed. He designed this program from
the safety standards set forth by the aviation industry. Later
in 1997 he upgraded his safety program by modifying some of
the material presented in the MSF program. Today, the statistics
collected from his program show a 25:1 reduction in both racer
accidents and injuries. He feels this safety program is a must
and a next step for all AMA licensed motocross riders to lower
the risk factors of accidents and injuries presently seen in
AMA off-road racing. Keep in mind that countermeasures insure
the needed and necessary safety measures, rider skill level
techniques, and counter actions necessary to avoid problems.
The lack of any required safety awareness and countermeasures
certification program in AMA off-road motorcycle racing is a
major contributor to the existing growing high number of rider
accidents, injuries, and wrongful death that occur all to frequently
today.
Mental Training & Development
A missing component in the educational structure of motocross
and Supercross training is the lacking of mental training. Authorities
agree that the mind-physical percentage distribution for any
activity is respectfully 95% mental and 5% physical. Dr. Medsker
has advanced mental training to the levels that are still unbelievable
by most his riders and race teams. Nevertheless, results still
speak still for its self. He uses both hypnosis and NLP (Neuro
Linguistic Programming) to achieve peak performances out of
the riders he teaches and coaches.
His Racing College
Over the past 21 years Dr. Medsker has created, development,
and produced a two and four year professional racing college.
It is defined by its unique curriculum, syllabi, and lesson
plan design. It offers an advanced accelerated program for learning.
The teaching methods it uses have successfully proven themselves
to shorten both the learning time and effectively accelerate
the rate of learning, including a higher percentage of the retention
of the material. This unique curriculum integrates both the
collection of knowledge and variations on its practical applications.
It has been shown to shorten the learning and application time
of racing skill levels necessary for advanced levels of competition.
This educational program is not for everyone. It is for the
serious student who knows education is the fastest way to advance
their career. For those few who know and believe that education
is still your best investment in yourself this program could
be for you.
The college applies advanced accelerated learning techniques
known for over 40-years but never employed by any learning institution.
For the interested student it covers all levels of education
ranging from grade school to post graduate studies. At present
the data indicates that our students learn about 19 times faster
than those who use the traditional programs. It offers a newly
designed self-directed curriculum and class scheduling that
allows the flexibility not yet seen or offered by any other
school system, college, or university. We truly hope you discover
our professional racing college and its programs beneficial
and effective to advance you to the level of racing you desire.
