Dedication
Many thanks to Dr. Doreen Virtue for being my teacher and sharing what your Angels, Spirit Guides, and God has shown -you. Your books inspired and motivated me to write this book for my family, friends, clients and classmates so that they can feel the joy of forgiveness.

I also want to thank Dennis, my husband, for his love, inspiration and support. Life is wonderful when you’re with your soul mate.

Forgiveness
There are many benefits of freeing yourself from the burden of unforgiveness.  But, sometimes the thought or task of forgiving becomes a burden even to the point of being overwhelming.  The purpose of this book is to help and assist those with understanding the simplicity of preparing and taking the action of forgiveness; and the benefits gained through experiencing these steps.  I am sure there will be those who pick up and read this book will question the importance of forgiveness or perhaps think - why even bother.  Just by taking the time to do these simple steps you will find that it makes a big difference in the things that matter to you.  It may be your health, family, spirituality, career, relationships and/or many other areas.  We have even included a discussion on daily acts of forgiveness.

According to Webster’s New World Dictionary - "Forgiveness is the act of giving up resentment against another or the desire for punishment of another”. The thought-action process of “Forgiving” is the step that allows you to stop being angry and/or judgmental towards another and to start feeling better about yourself. The origin of the word “forgiving” comes form its root word “for-giving”. This word gesture prompts us to freely release or give up any collection of negative thoughts we may have about unforgiveness. And in their exchange we begin to feel good about ourselves, as well as feeling peaceful, joyous, and loved. Every individual act of forgiveness towards others also releases it from your cellular memory and body, as well. Hence, forgiveness is an act of spiritual, mental, and physical detoxification, which allows your body to replace undesirable qualities of sickness and disease (dis-ease) with qualities of health and happiness.

The detoxification act of forgiveness has a far-reaching and more profound physiologic effect on your body’s health status, greater than what you might first imagine. If you can touch into the roots of sickness and disease you can implement a cure. Both health and disease have their roots in our minds. What we think about and place into action, combined with what we eat, becomes who we are.

We see many patients in our practice return to wellness by practicing a holistic protocol of health acts including their acts of "Forgiveness". And the act of forgiveness is a vital part of the body’s ability to reconstruction of health. We have seen heart problems begin to heal themselves when the individual decides to release the negative burdens collected and carried through the years; by using the easy to learn step-by-step acts of forgiveness found in this book. Shoulder and neck problems automatically start to heal themselves and disappear as early as the first step in. The Forgiveness Book. Colon and digestive problems subside negating the need for laxatives and anti-acids. If you have an interest in how the body, mind, and spirit work together to create their destiny, I highly recommend the book “Heal Your Body”, by Louise L. Hay. This book is a great confirmation of what happens to your body when you, intentionally or unintentionally, misdirect your emotional feelings and thoughts. And, conversely, the beneficial changes that come about when you start down your road of forgiveness. Thus, the importance of forgiveness is to create health and happiness by the act of forgiving. Forgiveness includes forgiving both yourself and others. Forgiveness is a vital part of the body’s health standards and, because of this fact, is the reason why we use this book in our holistic clinic.

Success Clue
Putting off the act of forgiveness until tomorrow is an easy thing to do. In fact it is so easy that you may never start and the longer you put it off the easier it becomes - to put it off yet another day. Until one day you no longer can even remember to think about it. Have you noticed that as you go through life that “Success Habits” leaves clues? Have you also noticed that “Failure Habits” leave clues, as well? If you have noticed these behaviors may we make the following suggestion, “If you are not practicing Success Habits then by this very act, you are practicing Failure Habits.” The choice of any habit, success or failure is yours alone to make. But remember, whatever the decision, the choices you make dictate the life you live. To your own heart be true. But Don’t Procrastinate the success act of forgiveness.

Avenues Of Forgiveness
The immediate and complete forgiveness route is best accomplished in person and face-to-face. However, face-to- face confrontations may be initially conceived as the most scariest and undesirable. But once you get over your stage fright you will find it is the best way through the problem. And just as the pre-encounter emotions will produce great feelings of uneasiness and anxiety, the post encounter emotions will leave you feeling of joyous, peaceful, and calm. With each face to face encounter the process gets easier and easier until you eventually look forward to the ones remaining.

If, for some reason, you are unable to have this type of forgiveness meeting with each individual, your second best choices include, writing a letter or placing a telephone call. However, you may encounter the possibilities that the individual has moved to an unknown address, or their name is unknown, or they could be deceased. In this case the forgiveness list works perfectly.

Forgiveness is a wonder thing. So, if one or more of the above situations should happen to you don’t be alarmed. And do not worry that your acts of forgiveness will go unacknowledged. Just have a little faith. If you trust, believe and proceed, God and your angels will do the rest. The act of forgiveness has a wonderful way of finding its own solution. As an example the act of reciting the Lords Prayer finds us asking for the “forgiveness of our trespasses as we forgive those who have trespassed against us”. And although this is a general type of forgiveness it sets the act of forgiveness into motion. And this method works extremely well.

Following the act of any forgiveness you will notice a calmness and peacefulness come over you. This feeling follows each and every act of forgiveness. And many notice that their body’s even feel “a sigh of relief’. They also feel that heaviness leave their body as each burden is released and lifted.

The keys to your success for this forgiveness exercise are to forgive and release everyone. Probable cause fits well here.  Or, in other words when in doubt - forgive them all. And remember like all new things, new habits also require a break-in time, which allow you to become familiar and acquaint yourself with your new patterns of behavior. So, don’t be discouraged if you find it difficult to perform and complete this exercise. Just have a little faith, do the best job you can, and trust and believe in these actions of righteousness and proceed.

One method that works well is to make a “Forgiveness Appointment”. Write it down on your calendar or on your “Do-It” list as an appointment reminder; just like you would do for haircuts, pick-ups and deliveries, reminder calls, and to go to the doctor. Forgiveness reminders are just as important! And we know, like we have found, that you too will find it easier and easier to say, “I forgive you - and I forgive myself.

So, in preparing for the forgiveness exercises don’t try to complete the preparation process in one sitting. The Chinese have a wonderful saying; “Every trip starts with the first step. And - if the trip is a long one make each step shorter”. As an example, I started listing the names of people in my book that had irritated me over the days, months and years. As the names came to me over the next

few days and weeks I kept adding them to my list. I was amazed at the number of people I hadn’t thought of in years that came to mind. Sometimes i couldn’t remember their names so I would just list a description of the situation instead. I have found that this alternative method works very well.

It was amazing how quickly the pages started to fill and how I started looking forward to performing this forgiving act of releasement. I listed everybody I could think of that had irritated me. Your list may include family members, spouses, old boyfriends, was-bunds, ex-wives, ex-significant others, children, stepchildren, pets, friends, deceased people, rude sales clerks or anyone you can think of and of course — you should include yourself. Everybody should always include himself or herself! Even if I had forgiven them before - they still made the list I wasn’t letting anyone slip by this time. It is very easy to have 3 to 4 or more pages of names.

So, here are the simple steps:
1. Use the enclosed pages to prepare your list of names.

2. Choose one of the following affirmations or write your own in the space provided.

3. Choose and make arrangements for a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. I did my forgiveness releasement one evening while I was attending a Spiritual Counseling Certification Class. But you can do this in your home, the woods or anyplace you choose.

4. Turn the phone off and put a “DO NOT DISTURB” sign on the door.

5. Make sure you are not interrupted until you completely finish you forgiveness list. The process may take 30 minutes or longer, so don’t get in a hurry but rather give

6. With your forgiveness statement in front of you. Picture the person in your mind and hold their image while you speak your statement out loud. Ask God, your angels, spirit guides, and/or archangels to help you see and feel the unforgiveness or resentment being carried away. When you can see or feel them being escorted away and out of sight you may then move to the next name.

7. Remember to take each name individually and complete the list.

There may be an area of forgiveness that some people may have a very difficult time with. As an example in this lifetime they have had someone do physical or mental abuse to them. If you fall into this category remember, you are not condoning or approving their actions. But what you are doing is releasing them from your life so that you both can go on your own separate ways. This act allows you to move forward once again down you own life’s pathway without bringing them along (in your mind) with you. In A Course of Miracles it states that we cannot judge, only God can. If you are now willing and open to the act of releasing them from your life we suggest that you add the following to your forgiveness statement “I don’t condone or approve of what you did, but I forgive you and myself and release you in all directions of time

Forgiveness Affirmations
1. “You, (say their name), forgive me. You forgive me and let me go. You forgive me and let the great ‘Christ Love’ from within, find freedom and forgiveness into this relationship, now. I (say your name), forgive you (say their name). I forgive you and let you go. I forgive you and let the great ‘Christ Love’ from within, find freedom and forgiveness into this relationship, now.”

2. “I am willing to release that part of me that becomes angry when I think of you. I forgive you and myself in all directions of time.”

3. “I forgive you and i release you. I hold no unforgiveness back. My forgiveness for you is total and complete. I am free and you are free to go our separate ways.” “I forgive you and myself in all directions of time.”

4. (Personal Forgiveness Affirmation)

Note
The stronger the emotional feelings felt toward any one individual will increase the number of times you will need to repeat the forgiveness affirmation.

If, after allowing some time to pass, you still feel upset, repeat the affirmation this time using your name in both parts. That is to say, be both the other person and yourself in the forgiveness affirmation.

Nightly Releasement
The forgiveness exercise should be done routinely on a nightly basis. Why let your list build back up? Just as you brush your teeth nightly it is equally important that a review of the day be performed. Forgive and release anyone who has irritated or upset you during the day. And don’t forget to include the forgiveness of yourself, too.

Below are several examples of nightly forgiveness exercises.

The Corral Visualization
“The Corral Visualization” from the book The Lightworker’s Way by Dr. Doreen Virtue has you take relaxing breaths and visualize a corral with two gates at each end and a road that passes through. When the gates are open everything flows easily, including your supply of love and peace and also the love and peace you put out to the world and others. When someone has irritated you, made you angry, and you are holding unforgiveness towards him or her. This holds you both corralled until you forgive them. You will notice that both gates are closed. Nothing can get in or out. Look inside your corral and see who is there. Then visualize the gates opening and that they are walking away free. Some people ask angels to come and escort them out or they have a bus or limousine pick them and take them away.

The Magic Doorway
“The Magic Doorway” is one I use with patients that need to release daily burdens and anger. I have you take several deep breaths and close your eyes. You then walk up to this beautiful castle and there a beautiful angel greets you. This angel takes your hand and asks if you would like to come inside where it is beautiful and peaceful. You can nod your head when you have made your decision. The angel instructs you to leave all the hurt, anger, burdens and unforgiveness at the door. They will be there if you want to pick them up when you leave or the angels will lovingly take care of them for you. As you pass through the doorway with your angel you turn around a see the people and burdens sitting on the other side of the doorway. You say to them, “I forgive you and release you to go with the angels in peace and all directions of time”. You turn around and your angel guides you into this beautiful and peaceful white light. You feel so peaceful, happy and light. As you walk out the other side of the castle you notice that you still feel peaceful, happy and light as you enjoy a restful night of sleep. Knowing that your angels watch over you and protect you.

Some of my patients have tape-recorded the above and play them nightly. Or you can use the “Chakra Clearing” tape by Dr. Virtue when you feel the need for a guided meditation. This is a wonderful resource to use since it has a morning and evening meditation. These will help you with daily forgiveness acts and exercises, as well.

I would like to remind everyone that we create the world we live in and that we have a direct effect on the earth. The earth and are bodies have the same composition - water, organic material (dust) and magnetic electrical energy. When we are a vessel of unforgiveness and anger the earth mirrors it. What we put out, we get back.

So it is important to teach our children about forgiveness. Teach them these simple steps so they can have joy, peace, and harmony all their lives. It is just as important as prayer, meditation, manners and the 3 R’s.

So please use this book for your family, friends, clients and patients. We see many people in our practices that have benefited greatly from this simple and easy-to-do exercise. We hope you will, too.
